What’s Your Motivation?
“There is a purpose for our lives far grander and more significant than perhaps we might ever have considered.”
Motivation is an intriguing concept. Although most people look to someone else for motivation, true motivation comes from within yourself. It comes from being inspired to make a strong, personal commitment to something and a willingness to serve others.
My favorite story and a real life testament to self-motivation is about a woman who was inspired by the love of a child. Laura Cramer, once from Cambridge, Wisconsin, made the decision to start a home-based business solely on her desire to provide the ‘extra’ things in life for her son, Michael.
Michael came home from grade school one afternoon, announced that he had made the decision to try-out for the school basketball team and had just found out that he had made the cut. Laura could tell by the glint in his eye, how excited he was, as he began to fill her in on all of the details of his decision.
There were consent forms to sign, schedules to post, practices to prepare for, etc. Laura watched him as he spoke with a smile of her own that spoke volumes. She was a single-mom and had been raising Michael alone since he was 3 years old. She loved seeing her son happy.
As Michael began to detail the cost involved in being a part of the team, Laura’s smile slowly began to fade from her face. She had no idea it would cost so much.
Although some people might not consider joining a basketball team an ‘extra’ in life, for a single-mom like Laura it was! Laura told Michael she would have to evaluate their money situation before she could sign any final consent forms for Michael to join the team.
I am a firm believer that everything in life happens for a reason. With this in mind, it may not surprise you to learn that on the very same evening that Laura was struggling to find a way to be able to afford for her son to join the basketball team, she attended a Tupperware home-party that one of her good friends was hosting.
That evening Laura was offered a Tupperware home-based business opportunity which became the answer to her prayers. When Laura arrived home that evening, she went to Michael’s room, woke him up from a sound sleep and told him that he should go back to sleep and dream about what it will be like being a great basketball player!
Inspiration comes packaged in many ways!
